Cooking
My parents taught me to cook at a young age and I’ve always been grateful for that. Since then, my passion has been in cooking from scratch. My most recent fascination is bringing my scientific background into the kitchen. It started with understanding how different flavour compounds work together and which ingredients to use to bring those out, to my latest piece of equipment: the sous vide machine. The results have been excellent. I’ve managed to turn cheap supermarket steaks into meals that were better than some I’ve had in up-market restaurants!
Technology
It all started when I wanted to play video games on my old MacBook Pro that really could not handle it. Naturally, my response to this was to build my own computer rather than simply upgrade the 8-year-old machine I bought with my first paycheck. That, however, was only the tip of the iceberg. Not content with building one machine, I then refurbished an old PC from my parents and turned it into a network-attached storage server (or NAS, for short). There is also, of course, the website you are currently on. All this has earned me the title of “tech support” for family and friends. All that just because I wanted to play a game that came out in 2012…
Table-Top Gaming
After a good meal with family or friends, what do we do for the rest of the evening? For me, an evening of playing games around the table (with snacks, of course) is just what the doctor ordered. I’ve run a table-top gaming group with some friends since 2019 and we always have a great time. I even created my own game for it and it’s become a staple.
